Food and the Civil Rights Movement

This program will be presented by Dr. James Coates. His presentation will focus on the lunch counter sit-ins and also the African American restaurants in the Winchester area during the Civil Rights Movement. After the presentation, the audience will be invited to a reception of Soul Food desserts.  This reception is one of the results of how the lunch counter sit-ins changed history.  Desserts include, sweet potato pies, red velvet cake, coconut cake, caramel cake, lemon cake and of course chocolate cake.  Co-sponsored with NAACP.  Free and open to the public.
